Pie Noon, part 21

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Well, I bet you didn’t see this lot coming! Wilf being zapped? Frederick on a flying platform that fires weird stuff? I’ve had this episode going ’round my head since long before I first put finger to keyboard on this story. It’s been there in my head for ten years and now it’s in your head, too. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when I first thought of it. Whether you still enjoy it ten years from now is another matter, of course.:)

This comic took a lot longer to produce than I expected. I had hoped to have it up by midnight but unfortunately it didn’t happen. It’s also a week late because of several issues. Firstly, I was busy with an assignment for my law course over the time I’d normally spend writing and drawing the comic, so it got delayed. Then I had a load of stuff to wrap up at my day job because I was leaving at the end of the week, so that caused delays too. Overall, it look a lot longer than I’d have liked.

However, that should all be in the past now. I’m freelance, working from home on projects I decide to work on. I get to plan all my hours and factor in everything I need to do, including The Life of Nob T. Mouse. Any delays from here on in (problems such as someone drilling through my telephone line or a tree falling on the power cables excepted, of course) will all be my fault, nobody else’s. In other words, I’ll do my best to ensure there are no more delays.

The ninety-five pound burger

Welcome to Series Three! Well, welcome to a ”test” of the Series Three style anyhow. Whether this represents the first actual Series Three story is another matter, one that will only become apparent in time. Be sure to tell me what you think of this new format. I’m always eager to hear from readers.

I decided to make this as a test of the Series Three style after reading about Burger King’s attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records by launching the most expensive burger in recorded history. It seemed like something Nob Mouse might be interested in, given that he owns a café.

I’m considering running Series Three alongside Series Two for a while, at least until the Series Two stories are completed (there’s at least one more for after Pie Noon), which would mean a long-form comic appearing on Mondays plus a three-panel comic appearing later in the week, probably on a Friday. I’ve yet to finalise this decision either way but if you like the idea, or even if you don’t, let me know. Either e-mail or visit our Facebook fan page and comment there.

Pie Noon, part 22

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

I’m sorry to say that the mystery illness that has had my many doctors flummoxed for the past three or four years (I lost track of when exactly I first went to one with these problems) struck again this week and prevented me from getting this episode finished on time. I apologise but there’s little I could have done to prevent it. No doubt it will happen again at some point because unless someone actually works out what’s wrong with me I’m at the mercy of this condition.

We’re nearing the end of Pie Noon now. I hope you’ve enjoyed the story so far and I really hope you’ll stick with Nob Mouse and Co. for the forthcoming adventures, which should prove to be different if nothing else. There’s still a little mileage left in this story yet though, so don’t make plans to tune in to something else just yet!

f you’re wondering where the link to the shop went, I’ve removed it because it redirected to Cafepress. Cafepress have become stupidly expensive and there’s no way I could ask anyone to pay their prices, plus postage, for a t-shirt or a mug. I’ll look into getting a new shop with decent prices because I don’t see why anyone should be ripped off.

An apple a day

Friday, June 27th, 2008

This one came to me while I was in the car, feeling a little travel sick and wracking my brains for a joke for today’s comic, so if you don’t find it funny that’s the excuse I’m going to stick to. :P

Pie Noon, part 23

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I think this now ranks as potentially the longest Nob Mouse story that there ever will be. I have no plans to create anything as long as this in the Nob Mouse universe ever again, although I do have plans for other comics that may be longer. As it stands, this story is huge but it could have been even longer. The original script has more twists and turns in it, more characters and more sub-plots. However, I didn’t feel they were necessary and I therefore dropped them. With hindsight, this was probably a good thing. The story is bulky enough as it stands.

The redesign of the website is pretty much complete and may be coming online this week, providing I get the final bugs out of the code and things work nicely. The site will still focus on the comic, there’s no worry about that, but it should look and feel nicer after I’ve finished fiddling with it. Check back on Friday for the next installment of the new Series Three and if everything has gone to plan there will be a new site design to go with the new comic.

Where did the comics go?

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Don’t worry, the comics are safe.  I have backed-up the entire site, removed everything from the servers, and begun developing the new version of The Nob Mouse Network.  It will be up and running later today, so be sure to check back!

Series One back online

Friday, July 4th, 2008

I’ve rebuilt the site but it still needs redecorating.  That will happen a little later, either later today or over the weekend.  For the moment, there is only Series One accessible but this will change as I upload more comics.  The whole collection will be online by midday.

Series Two and Three online

Friday, July 4th, 2008

The entire back catalogue of Nob Mouse comics should now be online for your visual delectation.  I have left them in the same order they were in on the original site, because I find keeping the archives in chronological order generally makes reading the comics easier, and also provides a clear demonstration of the way the comic has developed.  There are a couple of ‘placeholder’ comics missing at the moment, such as the ‘snowed under’ comic and the one with Nob Mouse checking my progress during last year’s NaNaWriMo but I don’t think these are too important to the comic and I’ll upload them when I can find them in my backups.

If anything else is missing, I’ll find it and put it back into the comic in the correct place when I can.

I’m eager to hear what comments, if any, people have about the new look for the site.  It should make maintaining the site a lot easier from my point of view but I’m just as eager to make sure it looks and feels okay for you peeps too – after all, the site is here for your entertainment so if it’s not fitting the bill, please tell me!

Comments are open on all News and Commentary posts so feel free to comment away!  You should find it is pretty simple to comment since I’m using a WordPress system to run the site now.  I’ve disabled comments on individual comics but if people would prefer to be able to talk about the comics on the comics themselves, rather than the posts that are associated with them, then please say so and I’ll enable comments on all the comics.

Finally, let me please welcome you all to the new-look Nob Mouse Network.  I hope you like it!

A trip down memory lane, part 1

Friday, July 4th, 2008

I’m doing this more as an experiment than anything else. The idea is to see whether I can run two serials alongside one-another. Although this is a story I want to tell, I was a little wary of doing it now but I think it will work. Anthology comics run multiple stories alongside one another all the time and while the majority don’t have the same characters in them, some do and they seem to work. This should, therefore, work okay.

The idea is to explain a little of the background to The Life of Nob T. Mouse. I think it’s about time people knew a little more about the characters and where they came from. This little trip down Memory Lane, literally, should help with that. I hope you enjoy it.

Pie Noon, part 24

Monday, July 7th, 2008

This is a rather explosive build-up to the finale and I’m hoping the ending is something of a shock – that’s the effect I was going for and I think it works. Let me know if you (dis)agree!

This comic is a couple of hours late on upload because the colouring just took so long but it’s online now and I hope you enjoy it. Tune in next week to see how (or even if) Nob Mouse and Co. get out of this one! :)
